Wonderful Things

Adversity is often the greatest teacher. It is fear that teaches you to be brave. It is pain that teaches you not to suffer. It is loss that teaches you to let go. Everything in life can be your teacher, but it is difficult to learn when you don't see a reason to change. Approach things from a positive perspective, and you can learn the most from your lowest moments.

What Is Success?

Too many people measure success in accomplishments, without considering what has happened around those accomplishments. Have you truly succeeded if you made it to the top but left a road of ruin behind you? Or are you more successful if you're somewhere in the middle but surrounded by love and happiness? I'll take the latter, and sleep peacefully.

Worrying About Tomorrow

Worrying has never solved a single problem, but it sure has caused some. Do what you can to make the plans you need to make, and then set it aside. Worrying won't make you any more prepared nor will it make the outcome any better. If you've done what you can, you've done what you can. If you haven't, do it. Neither option has any room or cause for worry.

Memorial Day 2018

In the United States, where Frequently Interrupted is based, today is Memorial Day, a day set aside to remember those who lost their lives in service to their country. There will be plenty of other activities as well, and I hope that people enjoy them and have some great times with family and friends, but remember what it's all about as well. In memoriam.

Help Them Get Through

We must each walk our own path, but none of us are walking alone. None of us can. Everyone will find stretches that cannot be done alone. Reach out a hand, to help or to be helped. They are one and the same. We are all walking each other home. Let's make it a good walk. #YouAreNotAlone #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Healing Takes Time

Odds are nearly overwhelming that the wounds you are tending didn't happen overnight. Don't expect them to heal overnight either. Healing takes time, and care, and patience. Don't try to make it happen; let it happen. Take a break when you need to, but keep moving forward and you'll get there. #RecoveryIsPossible #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Always Keep Fighting

Putting one foot in front of the other can sometimes be the hardest thing you have to do, but that's how you get through. Sometimes it's easier to do than others, but there is more to see, more to do, and more to love. You are stronger than you know, and you are not alone. Keep going. #AlwaysKeepFighting #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Mental Health Is Important

You exercise, you eat right, you see a doctor when you need to, but what about your mental health? Your mind is just as important as your body, and needs most of the same management and upkeep. You wouldn't be embarrassed to have the flu treated, and you wouldn't try to just walk off a broken leg. You should have the same consideration for your mental health. #NoStigma #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Mental Health Month

We are in the middle of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth so I want to take some time to make sure you are being aware and taking care of yourself. Mental health can be a puzzle, but it doesn't have to be a puzzle you work alone. Be aware of the pieces, be aware of how you interact with those pieces, and don't be afraid to get help.

The Light Is The Same

We have different lamps, different guides, different teachings, but love is love. If you are teaching love, you are adding light to the world, and this world could use more light. Raise your lamp high, whether or not it is the same lamp as your neighbor's, and let the world see love added into love.

Strength Of The Spirit

Sometimes the greatest achievements are accomplished, not by those with the most physical ability, but by those who just had the will to do it. Sometimes just seeing that something needs to be done and then not giving up until it is done demonstrates the greatest ability. The will to achieve, when properly harnessed, can be the greatest tool you possess. Use it well, and use it wisely.

Compassion Is

Whether or not you agree with them, whether or not you believe they are in the right, whether or not you even like someone, you can still wish someone to be free from suffering. Do you want to know the dividing line between the good people and the not-so-good people, when it gets gray and complicated, when life gets complicated and you have a hard time making the distinction? It's compassion, more often than not. True, genuine compassion. Keep that in mind.

The Shortest Distance

Have you ever noticed how contagious a smile can be? Try it. Go out and start giving people smiles, see how many you get in return. Bet you get more back then not. A smile is the easiest way to make a connection and brighten someone's day. It costs nothing and requires no real effort. Spread cheer. Spread smiles.

Sooner Begun

Sooner begun is sooner done. The most difficult task does not get easier by postponing it. If you are having trouble with something, if something scares you, the secret is to begin. Just get started, and, before you know it, you have gotten through.

No One Recipe

No two lives are exactly the same. What works for one may not work for another. What is bliss for one may be horror for another. We must each walk our own path and find our own place.

Walk Gently

Do you reveal everything you are thinking and feeling to every person you pass each day? Probably not. We tend to forget, however, that the people we pass are probably not revealing everything also. Do not assume you know how a person is struggling from what you can see. There are many wounds that do not show. Walk gently, and be mindful of what might be.

Courage Is A Decision

Everyone gets afraid. It is an involuntary response to unexpected or unrecognized stimulus. What we do with that fear, though, is what matters. We can stay in the reaction, wallow in fear, or we can choose to act in a way that will alleviate fear, create new paths, and move forward.

Resistance To Change

We have been told so many times that change is difficult, but change happens every day, often without our conscious awareness. It is not change that is difficult; it is our response to change. We cling to the familiar and fear what may become, so we cause our own tension and stress rather than allow life to progress in its natural course. Should we resist some change? Certainly. Change, in itself, is neither good nor bad. Evaluate mindfully and make an aware determination whether or not a change warrants a painful response.

It Is Our Choices

We are each born with a set of skills and abilities that are not of our own choosing. We each have reactions and reflexes that we did not design. These things may factor into what we are, but they cannot define who we are. It is the decisions we make and the actions we choose that show who we really are. Choose well, and be who you intend to be.

Face Yourself

The easiest way to change the world is to change yourself. The scariest way to change the world is to change yourself. Yes, those two go hand in hand, but it is the simple reality. Facing yourself, admitting the need for change, and then making that change can be a monumental undertaking, but this is also the one part of the universe over which you have the most control. Face yourself and make a better world.

Life Is Locomotion

If you're living, you're moving, but the direction matters. Are you running away from or toward? You will do both at various times in your life, but make sure you're doing the latter more often. That's how you grow. That's how you truly live. And remember, direction is more important than speed. Keep moving forward, no matter the interruptions.

What Sort Of World

What sort of world do you want to live in? I vote for the world where we try to respect the basic rights of those around us, and value each other simply because we exist. I hope you do to, because we could use all the help we can get, but remember, this takes work. We can't just respect and value when it's easy. In order for this to really stick, we have to respect and value at all times. We have to check every action against this criteria, and we have to change if we discover that what we are doing does not demonstrate respect and value. In order to make a better world, we have to be better.

A Hero Can Be Anyone

It doesn't require special powers or a uniform of any kind to be a hero. It requires the motivation to make the world a better place in some way, and the action to follow through on that desire. It can be a gesture or a movement, and it's always an option. Be a hero today.
