As Good As You Are

We are often tempted to respond in kind, to retaliate. It is common to hear such things as, "But did you see what he did?" Here's the thing, though: If you want to be better, you have to actually be better. You have to make the effort to step up, step forward, and keep going. Making excuses, pointing to the worst examples, responding in kind, none of these things can make us better people. In order to be better people, we have to be better people. It is both that simple and that complicated.
