Beach Therapy

With the heatwave we've been having, I sure wouldn't mind some beach therapy. We have all the sand I could ask for, but kind of short on that all-important salt water. Have to rely on the imagination for now. Hope everyone is having a good week.

What To Expect

The movers have come and gone, and we are sweeping up the sawdust and getting ready to hang out the Now Open sign.* If all stays according to plan, I intend to have the place running for real July 6. I had considered the first, but that's right in the middle of the week, and right before a holiday weekend. Let's wait a few more days and do it right. The board is green, and I do not anticipate any trouble launching on schedule.

So how are things going to work around here? That's a fair question, and one for which I only have a partial answer. I don't want to get too tight because, when I start planning things too closely, Murphy tends to get involved.** I'll be happy to give a few highlights, though.

I plan to post five days a week, Monday through Friday, though I have no expectation that all five of those each week will be long, in-depth articles. I can be a fast writer when I have something to say, but let's be real. I'm one person with a full time job that isn't this. Things are going to come up, and I have no interest in setting myself up to fail. I've done that with past blogs, and I'm a big fan of learning from my mistakes.

So tentatively plan for two big articles per week, and we'll play the rest by ear. They will be shorter pieces, topical comments, or sometimes just nice pictures or memes (check the Facebook page for examples, already going on). If things get rolling the way I hope, I might even feature some Q&A or other form of audience participation, but that's for the future. We'll get there when we get there.

I've already started doing some of the heavy writing, so that I will be ahead of schedule when we get started. I have a couple of larger autobiographical projects lined up to start with, dealing with mental health, Zen, and just the basic concept of what makes me tick and how I think I can improve on that ticking, plus how that might apply to a larger picture. We'll plan the big pieces for Tuesday and Thursday, with Tuesday being a more free-form, current events musing, and Thursday going for a larger series I am in the process of outlining right now. If that format ends up working the way I expect it to, we'll keep it that way with Thursday being lined up for different series, one after another. Things are still pretty fluid, so make sure you let me know what you think as we go along.

The comments will be open both here and on Facebook for that purpose. I'm pretty laid back and do believe in keeping a light touch when it comes to moderation, but we may as well get one thing straight, just so there is no confusion later. This is my blog, not your Free Speech zone. I'm as big a fan of free speech as the next guy, and bigger than many, but you are responsible for locating your own place to plant your soap box. This one is mine. I won't tolerate attacks or trolling - such things will be deleted without warning, so expect it - but we can discuss almost anything else. Keep it polite and civil and we should be golden.

Aside from that, I'm just working on some things in the background, getting everything ready to go. I'll keep doing little posts, like I've done these past couple days, just to keep the water moving, and we will have a real Grand Opening on July 6. I hope to see you there. * I tend to write in metaphors. You may as well know that now. It's going to happen often, and I won't be calling it out in the future. Enjoy.

A Basic Introduction

This is from the About section of the Facebook page, just so you have some idea of what's coming.


I have issues, but I deal with them. Most days, I deal with them rather well. We all have bad days though.

I've lived with depression and anxiety for most of my life, officially diagnosed for more than 20 years, and I've learned a few things. One of the things I've learned is that talking can help. Another thing I've learned is that helping can help. So I'm going to talk about a few things, and hopefully that helps someone else, maybe even someone who didn't know to ask.

We won't just talk about mental health issues, though. It's good to talk about those things, but focusing on them exclusively can be less than helpful. Instead, we will talk about a variety of subjects focused on improving the human condition. That's a pretty wide range, and I plan to make full use of the freedom that entails.

I hope you will come along for the ride.
